A Note About Our
Scale of Difficulty

We are all more comfortable with certain techniques than others.  These ratings give an overall idea of difficulty, but a list of specific techniques used in each design can also be found in the Pattern Info section of every pattern page. Happy crafting!

• Relaxing: Within reach of knitters at the advanced beginner level, these designs feature stitch patterns and shaping that are easy to follow and memorize.  Relaxing patterns generally include more explanation of standard techniques than those in the other two tiers.  When tackled by a more advanced knitter, these are easy designs that make quick gifts or therapy projects.


• Engaging: Suitable for intermediate knitters, Engaging patterns have a little extra tang.  There may be something a bit adventurous about them, such as a steeked construction or free-form cables, but those reasonably familiar with following a chart and working the techniques involved (whether lace, cables, or colorwork) shouldn't have any problem.


• Engrossing: Engrossing patterns are those that call for sustained levels of attention.  They're not necessarily more difficult than Engaging designs, but they may involve experimental techniques, more elaborate stitch motifs, or the simultaneous use of multiple charts.  If you feel like sinking your teeth into a project, Engrossing designs may be the way to go!
